新しい Greasemonkey0.5.3 でも問題なく動作するようだ。とっても便利。Google ローカルでもマップは出てくるので、Included pages のところに "http://local.google.*/*" という記述を加えるといい。
Google Maps API を使ったカスタムマップでもこれが使えるか思ってやってみたが、ダメだったようだ。どうも個別対応をしなければいけないようだ。

また、同様の機能は Google Maps の拡張API の "KsGMap" で実装されている。

こういうのは、msn VirtualEarth のようにできるだけ標準仕様にしてもらいたいものだ。
その msn VirtualEarth が、ようやく API を正式にリリースすることになったようだ。

The API for Virtual Earth, which is in beta, would let developers embed the service into an application. The API is available at no charge, even for commercial use. The only requirement is that developers use VE's local search capabilities, Trina Seinfeld, lead product manager for MapPoint, said. While third-party applications don't have to carry advertising from MSN, a shared-revenue option is available.

1. Maps are available in U.S. only and does not include any routing capabilities. In the future we will add European and Asian geographies.
2. In order to use the API for commercial applications with no charge, your application must use the local search service on the map (the What/Where search boxes)
3. There is no SLA for Virtual Earth enabled applications until January 1, 2006. Also, if you choose to use Virtual Earth in your production environment before the end of 2005, you must notify the MSN Virtual Earth team first in order to ensure capacity
4. MapPoint Web Service and Virtual Earth platform are not integrated (yet!)
・・・といっても、日本はまだ対象になってないし、まだ技術的な詳細は公開されておらず、今週の13日に MSN Developer Center がオープンすることになっている。l
個人的には、モバイラー向けに WiFi で位置情報を認識して表示してくれる機能や IP アドレスからプロバイダの位置情報を返してくれる機能をどんな風に API で提供してくれるのかが興味あり。
msn の担当者は、
"We know how to work in the developer world, so we in no way see ourselves as catching up," Osmer said.と結構強気だが、Google Maps API がこれだけ受け入れられてる現実を見てるから、何らかの対策もしてるんだろう、と勘ぐってみる。
いや、こういう対策じゃなくて。

IPアドレスからプロバイダーの位置がわかるAPIが位置を返すのだとしたら、Google Mapsでの表示に使われてしまいそう。
