Google Earth - Hurricane Katrina Imagery
September 4, 2005Keyhole Community: DG imagery for Google Earth - VBR overlay
This KMZ file will show you satellite images of New Orleans post Katrina. This single file should automatically fetch individual images and overlay them on top of the Google Earth basemap (before Katrina imagery). You can use the transparency slider to see the before and after transition.
We are trying something new tonight. The DG data from August 31st has been posted to Maps and we are now offering a dynamic-VBR-overlay of that data on top of Google Earth. This is running on an experimental server and uptime is not guaranteed.
After you zoom into New Orleans, 2 seconds after your motion stops, it will fetch tiled overlays. You can adjust the transparency of the whole group by selecting the well-labeled folder containing the overlays. Each time you move and then stop, it will update.
We would love to get your feedback after giving it a try.

前回のアップデートを含めて、写真がでかいのでサーバーとデータ送出量の負荷低減のための措置だと思う。

Ogle Earth: Katrina prompts experimental data delivery in Google Earth
What's innovative here is that the data consists of tiles, just as in Maps, and is delivered via a PHP script, with URL http://dev.keyhole.com/katrina/dg/tileserver.phpタイルを使うのはなんか Google Maps っぽいと思ったら、PHP で処理しているとのことだ。
I'd love to know what that PHP does:-) It looks like it accesses the exact same tiles as Google Maps does, depending on what level you are zoomed in, no doubt determined by the bounding box of your view, which the PHP script receives. As those tiles are all just small jpegs, the script would need to decide how many to fetch and how to arrange them.
Google Earth でも、この Google Maps っぽいテクを使って hack する人が出てきそう。
