eat-hopper : 北谷「ちゃたんそば」- 本日開店

沖縄そばをはじめ沖縄料理関係のレビューは先日マップ化をお手伝いした「沖縄食道」のnopio2kさんはじめ諸先輩方のブログやレビュー記事がそれこそたくさんあるので、この eat-hopper のシリーズでは、基本的にはそれ以外の料理を採り上げようと思っている。

なんだけど、今日北谷でオープンした「ちゃたんそば」については「食べてレポしますよ」と言ってしまったので（笑）、とりあえず簡単にレポすることにする。なにせ今日と明日はオープンで半額、ということなので・・・（汗）

場所は58号線のガストと Cybex の間。こないだまで札幌時計台ラーメンだったところだ。

　

半額の新聞広告のせいか、夕方でもう売り切れ店じまい直前だった。620円（630円だったかな?）の「ちゃたんそば」を300円で食券を買う（今日明日はこのメニューのみだったようだ）。

Google がカトリーナ専用検索サイトを開設

Google が、ハリケーン「カトリーナ」の被災者や関連ウェブページを検索できる専用検索サイトを開設した。

The new Katrina People Search helps people to search across all of these databases at once to find information on friends or family who may have been affected by the hurricane.

We also built a special search index that only returns results from Katrina-related web pages, so you can search on any keyword and know all the results will be relevant.

これのプロダクトマネージャも、Google Maps をやってる Bret Taylor なんだな。

被災者検索では、いろいろなデータベースを束ねてインデックス化している。"Search for People" で適当な名前を検索してみると、katrinasafe.com、wecaretexas.com や www.familylinks.icrc.org、katrina-survivor.com などの被災者データベースをソースにしていることがわかる。住所などほかのキーワードでも探すことができる。

一方、"Search the web" でカトリーナ関連ページの検索を "French Quarter" "flood drain" "Google Earth" などで検索してみるといろいろなリソースがヒットする。地元紙である The Times-Picayune が運営する nola.com や FEMA のウェブサイトが上位でヒットすることが多いようだ。

また懐かしい名前を久しぶりに耳にしたものだ。

この人は TCP/IP プロトコルの基本設計をした一人として「インターネットの父」と呼ばれている人なのだが・・・風貌といい、なんかウルトラの父を彷彿とさせる。あご髭はやしてるし。

冗談はともかく、大昔にある大きなカンファレンスでこの人の基調講演を聞いたことがある。その頃から既に「インターネットの父」と呼ばれていたと思う。講演内容はもう覚えていないが、たしか基調講演にしては非常に技術的に具体的な内容だったという記憶がある。

この人はずっと MCI にいるものだと思ってたら、プレスリリースを見ると、NASA の JPL で IP をベースにした天体間通信の研究に携わったりしていたようだ。知らなかったなあ。野口さんがスペースシャトルからメールや写真を送ったときにもきっと使われていたに違いない。

The idea of an InterPlanetary Internet came to Vint Cerf several years ago as he was trying to formulate an idea of what the Internet might look like in the future. He envisioned a series of Internets linked by gateways and using the Internet Protocol (IP) suite (a world-wide standard) as its basis. By using the IP protocol (which he helped co-create), he felt that existing technology could be leveraged so as to speed up development of the InterPlanetary Internet.

で、彼は Google で何をするの?、という記事が出ているが、MCI で Internet Map のプロジェクトを引っ張っていた人だけに、やっぱり Google Earth、Google Maps に大きく関わるようだ。
